Saturday, May 27, 2006, Broomfield Colorado: Tigers RFC announced their 2006 Player Awards at their Annual
General Meeting. Senior Captain Matt O'Brian and Sammy Glynn tied in the voting of players and coaches for the
prestigious Most Valuable Player Award. O'Brian was also voted the Tiger's 2006 Best Forward. Glynn was the club's
leading scorer with 89 points, setting the club record for points scored in one season as a rookie. Senior Captain Steve
Blevins, of Broomfield HS was voted the 2006 Best Back, Jason DeLange, of Broomfield HS was the 2006 Best Rookie
Back, and Eric Serani, the Broomfield HS 2006 Valedictorian was acknowledged as the Tigers RFC Best Rookie Forward
for the 2006 season.

campaign in the Colorado Youth Rugby Boys Plate Semifinal Match with a 27-10 loss to Cherry Creek RFC. To qualify, the
Tigers topped Legacy RFC 12-5 in the Quarterfinal. Sam Glynn capped the season scoring with a 47 meter field goal, and
converted two of three tries on the day. Veteran Prop Neil Quinlivan scored his first try ever to put the Tigers in the

Wednesday, May 3, 2006, Championship Field, Broomfield, Colorado: Legacy HS RFC took the first match of a
three year rivalry with cross-town rival Tigers RFC 24-21. Tigers went up early on a penalty kick by Sam Glynn and a try
by Wyatt Sessions. A penalty try, awarded to Legacy and the follow up conversion made it 8-7. Wyatt Sessions, running
hard, put the Tigers ahead by six, before Sam Glynn connected again on a penalty kick. Glynn was 2 for 2 on penalty
kicks, and 0 for 2 on conversions for the day. Before the end of the first half, Legacy pressured Tigers deep and after a
penalty kick was wide right, the Legacy support set up a late try. The missed conversion made it 16-12 Tigers lead at half
time. On the opening sequence of the second half, Legacy took the lead 17-16 with a steady attack and a great rucking
effort. The game dragged on through the second half until Jason DeLange put the Tigers back ahead 21-17 covering a
loose ball off a kick and ruck. With five minutes remaining in the match, Legacy pushed the Tigers deep into their end and
were awarded a second penalty try. The conversion made the final 24-21, Legacy. Tigers RFC will join Legacy in the
Qualifying round of the State Championship Tournament at Ridgeview Academy in Watkins on Saturday, May 6, 2006,
where four teams will advance to the second weekend of the tournament and meet the 4 Division Champions.

coaches will take place at the CYR State Championship Match, in May. Tigers RFC draws players from Holy Family,
Broomfield, Erie, and Pomona High Schools.

Championship, Tigers Rugby Football Club used speed and pressure to upend Boulder RFC, 47-15. Kevin Scherr, the
2004 Colorado Youth Rugby Player of the Year, put up two tries on a pair of 30 meter bursts. As an omen of things to
come, Scherr took the opening kickoff a step too soon and had a third possible try called back. Outstanding pressure from
the scrumhalf, Eddie Page, brilliant defensive coverage by 8-man Eric Serani, straight up running by prop, Neil Quinlivan,
and the debut of Travis McKee of Pomona High School in Arvada highlighted the victory. Captain Steve Blevins started the
scoring after backing up Boulder to their goal line, and touching down a loose ball in goal. The back line hit the gain line
with great pace all day. Jason DeLange, Sam Glynn, John Castillo added a try apiece to fuel the fire. A 33-15 halftime
margin was also helped by Sam Glynn's kicking, who was 6 for 7 on conversions including a long attempt from right sideline
and a drop kick. In a B-side match, Zach Sorenson evened the score at 5-5 before Steve Blevins got away up the left side
as time ran out for the win at 10-5. No conversions were attempted in the second match by either team.

Steve Blevins blocked a kick for Jason DeLange to touch down and opened the scoring with great pressure on the goal
line. Wyatt Sessions added another, and Sam Glynn made the lead 24-5 at half-time with the first try of his career.
Sammy also went 3 for 4 on conversion kicks, one for two on penalty kicks and 0 for one in drop goal attempts. Matt
O'Brian, Holy Family's All State offensive tackle-turned 8-Man scored off a well taken 20 meter penalty run in the second
half. High winds in the Tigers face neutralized their kicking game. Sloppy rucks and mauls characterized the second half,
ending with the 29-17 final count.

Littleton, Colorado to take third place in the Rocky Mountain Classic High School Boy’s Rugby Tournament for the second
year in a row. In addition to serving as the host and Director of the tournament, the Tigers put up two wins and a loss on
the day.
The Tigers, drawing 14 players due to Spring Break, SATs and injuries, borrowed 11 players from the Southwest Area
Rugby Men, giving all players a share of the play throughout the day. In the first game of the tournament, the bracket play
pitted the “SWARMing Tigers Rugby Football Club” against Santa Fe Area High School Rugby Club. The Tigers
dominated the first half going up 10-0 on tries by Justin McDonald and Rick Penny of SWARM. Chris Feese and Matt O’
Brian put the conversions wide left. In the second half, Drew Laskowski of SWARM capitalized on constant pressure by the
powerful Tigers back line. SWARM’s Chris Feese played the wind nicely and sailed it through for the last conversion
attempt making the final 17-0.
As tournaments advance in the winner’s bracket, the competition should likely get stiffer. True to form, the Tigers second
round opponent was a perennial nemesis, Ridgeview Academy. Attempting to revenge two losses to the correctional
facility athletes last year, the Tigers missed a chance to go ahead early when Matt O’Brian punched his second penalty
kick of the day wide right . The merged club representing Holy Family, Broomfield, Chatfield and Mullen High Schools
fought well, but could not convert. On the last play of regulation time, knotted at 0-0, a blocked 22 meter drop out, put
Ridgeview inside, where they scooped up a loose ball and sprinted 15 meters for the try. The conversion put the Tigers
down 7-0 at full time.
The final match of the day, for third place, presented more trouble in the form of Colorado Springs U-19 Rugby Football
Club, the reigning Colorado Youth Rugby State Champions. Great back line play and defense set the tone, and a peaking
set of scrummies gave rucking support. SWARM 'n Tigers pressed Colorado Springs repeatedly to their goal line with
flyhalf Steve Blevins' kicking and hard running by Jason DeLange, Kenny Ford, Markus Harvey and Matt Wilkins. An
assortment of SWARM flankers created a powerful set of wings. Putting Springs’ offside, gave Matt O’Brian a penalty
attempt that he nailed to put the Tigers up 3-0. As time ran out in the first half, O’Brian again, playing flanker, snuck into
the flyhalf position and padded the lead with a 25-meter drop goal. The second half went slowly and gradually backward
as the Colorado Springs added the pressure from the scrum, line-outs and penalties including a successful penalty kick to
close he gap to 6-3. With Colorado Springs pressing deep late in the game, the Tigers dug out with kicks into touch until
time ran out with the Tigers driving at midfield.

| Wednesday, March 29, 2006, Greenbriar Park, Fort Collins, Colorado: When the Tigers Rugby Football Club arrived at Fort Collins, a storm was brewing under dark towering clouds. The Tigers felt overshadowed all day by sheer numbers (30 Fort Collins players to 16 for the Tigers). Luckily, only 15 players could play at a time, but Fort Collins Youth Rugby put out their 15 biggest high school boys against a disciplined Tigers team. The Broomfield based high school boys rugby club methodically set the pace of the match, coming from behind for the Tigers’ second league win of the season, 18-15. In the first half, an overload up the left sideline put Ft. Collins up early at 7-0. Sam Glynn made 2 of 4 penalty kicks to narrow the margin to 7-6 by halftime. FCYRC caught the Tigers back row off guard with a lumbering try by their 8-man from 30 meters out and missed the conversion. Tiger’s Steve Blevins went in from Inside Center to give the Tigers back in it at 12-11. Sam Glynn missed the conversion. A penalty gave FCYR a four-point cushion. Eddie Page racked a Ft. Collins back and breathed life into the Tigers’ charge. Wyatt Sessions took advantage an over aggressive Ft. Collins center when he joined the back line from fullback and put the Tigers in close. Then, Wyatt took another loose ball straight up, breaking three tackles for the win. Sam Glynn added a conversion to set the bar at 18-15. Matt O’Brian took the ball out of a ruck from the right side and put a drop kick just wide. Then, like a déjà vu rematch of last year’s game, the Tigers clawed out a victory on their own goal line by stopping a line out, three five meter scrums and a penalty until time finally expired. In a second match against Ft. Collins B side, the same Tigers, with five Ft. Collins substitutions, played to a 5-5 tie until the light faded. Steve Blevins gave the Tigers side a lead on a long try and missed his own conversion. |
| TIGERS UNDEFEATED IN SPRING FLING ROUND-ROBIN |
Saturday, March 18, 2006, Northglenn, Colorado: Tigers Rugby Football Club won a round robin, going 3-0 at the
Spring Fling Tournament including their first league win of the season. The club record improved to 6-2, and they are
currently 1-1 in league play.
In the opener, against Ponderosa High School RFC, the Tigers went up 12-0 in the first half and held on for the win. Eagle
High School's Bob Kemp, playing second row, started the party with a loose ball pick up and carried it 40 meters for the 5
point try. Sam Glynn hit the conversion to make it 7-0. Matt O'Brian led the charge when Sam Glynn missed a penalty
goal attempt. O'Brian, a senior captain from Holy Family High School ran down the unattended ball behind the confused
Ponderosa players and grounded it for the try. Sammy Glynn missed the conversion and a later drop goal, but he was
gold when it counted.
The thriller of the day was a worrisome match against 2005 State Semifinalist Aurora Saracens who went up 10-0 on
powerful overloads in the first 10 minutes. Broomfield's Jason DeLange countered by slashing off a skip from the flyhalf
with great pace. DeLange finished it by breaking the the base of the goalpost with a Saracen defender, then touched it
down to give the Tigers hope at 10-5. Glynn missed the conversion, but connected later on a 40 meter penalty kick to
close the gap, 10-8 at the half. The second half was decided with clean, hard hitting by the Tigers and a dominant hook.
But a drop goal by Sam Glynn put the Tiger ahead by a point at 11-10. Saracens went down hard, including Mark
Harvey's crunching stop on a seasoned veteran center as he was about to break one. Line-outs were effective and the
Tigers were surprisingly dominant in the scrum against a large Saracen pack.
With their third game of the day presenting an interdivisional league game, the Tigers stopped the Carbondale/Aspen

School picked up and touched down for a try. While taking a 7-5 lead at halftime, the Tigers kicked, rucked and won the
hook to establish the pace of the game. The backline worked it wide to the corner, while deep in the Jr. Gents end. Inside
Center Steve Blevins looped around a valiant Kevin Scherr at wing, who flipped it back to Blevins and put the Tigers
further ahead. Sam Glynn put up a late drop goal attempt that sailed 35 meters against the wind and dropped just over
the crossbar to end the scoring.
Spring Fling Tournament including their first league win of the season. The club record improved to 6-2, and they are
currently 1-1 in league play.
In the opener, against Ponderosa High School RFC, the Tigers went up 12-0 in the first half and held on for the win. Eagle
High School's Bob Kemp, playing second row, started the party with a loose ball pick up and carried it 40 meters for the 5
point try. Sam Glynn hit the conversion to make it 7-0. Matt O'Brian led the charge when Sam Glynn missed a penalty
goal attempt. O'Brian, a senior captain from Holy Family High School ran down the unattended ball behind the confused
Ponderosa players and grounded it for the try. Sammy Glynn missed the conversion and a later drop goal, but he was
gold when it counted.
The thriller of the day was a worrisome match against 2005 State Semifinalist Aurora Saracens who went up 10-0 on
powerful overloads in the first 10 minutes. Broomfield's Jason DeLange countered by slashing off a skip from the flyhalf
with great pace. DeLange finished it by breaking the the base of the goalpost with a Saracen defender, then touched it
down to give the Tigers hope at 10-5. Glynn missed the conversion, but connected later on a 40 meter penalty kick to
close the gap, 10-8 at the half. The second half was decided with clean, hard hitting by the Tigers and a dominant hook.
But a drop goal by Sam Glynn put the Tiger ahead by a point at 11-10. Saracens went down hard, including Mark
Harvey's crunching stop on a seasoned veteran center as he was about to break one. Line-outs were effective and the
Tigers were surprisingly dominant in the scrum against a large Saracen pack.
With their third game of the day presenting an interdivisional league game, the Tigers stopped the Carbondale/Aspen

their third straight Colorado Catholic High School Rugby Championship game against Regis Jesuit High School RFC by a
final score of 41-10. Regis rucked well and distributed the ball quickly to the corners as the Tigers spotted them 19 points

Tigers kept the pressure on and Glynn put the Tigers on the board with a 30 meter penalty goal. Then, off an exceptional
ruck by Eric Serani on his goal line, Steve Blevins went the distance. Sam Glynn hit the conversion to put the Tigers back
in it at 24-10, before Regis pulled away. The loss put the Tigers at 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.

RFC today at Jacob's Field as a curtain raiser to Queen City RFC matches. Cherry Creek started out in the Tigers end,
until the backline warmed up and pressured with potent kicking. Grubs and pops by Wyatt Sessions and Matt O'Brian
resulted in a penalty try and conversion after Creek obstructed a grub between the posts. Broomfield's senior captain
Steve Blevins used his speed and wisdom to put the Tigers up 14-0 in the first 20 minutes. Zulu Warrior, Matt Wilkins, a
Holy Family sophomore, scored on a short run with great movement by the backline for his first ever try to close the
scoring at 22-15. Sammy Glynn went 2 for 3 on conversions, 1 for 2 on drop goals and was 0-1 on penalty goals. A drop
goal attempt fell just short from 45 meters. Glynn made his first ever drop goal on his second attempt of the day from 35
meters off a successful Tigers' hook and scrum. Line-outs, rucking and an offensive kicking game gave the backline
plenty of choices. The forwards get better each week. The tight five, including Broomfield HS's senior captain Adam
Ortega, Marcus Lucero, Markus Harvey, Eric Serani, Zac Gonzales and Neil Quinlivan gave the Cherry Creek pack all they
wanted. Constant pressure from the flankers and backline was the rule of the day despite plenty of personnel rotations in

Runner-up, Denver East with mixed results. Against the top-ranked side in the state, Tigers RFC was shut-out 31-0.
Tigers rebounded to return the favor against East's B side, 12-0, and C side by the score of 20-0. The Tigers built up their
kicking game as the day wore on. Jason DeLange, a Senior from Broomfield HS offered two tries. DeLange's second try
converted a brilliant 30 meter carry and ruck by Center Markus Harvey, a Freshman from Holy Family HS. Sammy Glynn
converted 1 of 5 conversions and 1 of 3 penalty kicks. Glynn, a Junior Flyhalf and kicker from Holy Family HS missed two
drop goal attempts, one from 40 meters, wide right. Flankers Quincy Anderson and Eddie Page of Holy Family and

Wednesday, February 22, 2006, Championship Field, Broomfield, Colorado: Over 60 high school aged boys held a
joint practice and scrimmage hosted by Tigers Rugby Football Club. Players from Legacy Rugby Football Club and the
North Side Vikings (Northglenn) met to review safety issues of scrums and line-outs, and to simply play rugby together.
